Minar-e-Pakistan incident: IG Punjab seeks NADRA's help to identify accused

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Inspector General of Police (IGP), Punjab Inam Ghani in a telephonic conversation with Chairman National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), Muhammad Tariq Malik, regarding the incident of harassment of a female at Minar-e-Pakistan on Independence Day has asked immediate identification of the accused and their identity cards.

IG Punjab said that the teams have been formed to arrest the perpetrators of violence against woman, asking to start the process of identification of the accused immediately.

“Chairman NADRA has been sent photos of the accused by the police for identification. NADRA staff is busy identifying the accused despite the holiday,” said Ghani.

He said that all the evidence against the accused would be collected and they would be arrested so that the accused could not escape punishment.

A case has been registered against the accused under Section 354-A, which is punishable by life imprisonment or death penalty.

IG Punjab said that all the accused will be given severe punishments. IG Punjab has directed CCPO Lahore and DIG Investigation to monitor the case directly.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday took notice of Minar-e-Pakistan incident where more than 400 men assaulted a female TikToker on the Independence Day.

The prime minister contacted Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Inam Ghani and took details of the incident.

He directed the IG Punjab to immediately arrest people involved in assaulting the woman.
